Instructions:

  1. To prepare wood for woodburning, use sandpaper to lightly sand wood surface.  Remove dust with paper towel.

  2. Before using Creative Woodburner Value Pen, read through and follow all safety precautions on packaging.  Attach Universal Point to tool.  Tighten with pliers.  Secure stand to hard surface with tape.  Place tool on stand.  Plug into electric outlet and heat for 4-5 minutes.  Practice on a scrap of wood before beginning project to get a feel for the tool.  Use a light touch.  Do not press hard, just let the tool do the work and gently glide over the wood.

  3. Place pattern on center of plaque.  Tape in Place.  Slide graphite paper under pattern, carbon side down.  Use pencil or stylus to trace pattern onto wood.  Remove pattern and graphite paper.

  4. Use Universal Point to burn the traced lines.  Use metal ruler for straight lines.  Hold metal ruler on line.  Pull Universal Point along ruler.  Lightly shade some areas by holding the point on a slight angle and using the side of the point.  Unplug tool and let cool.  Remove Universal Point.

  5. Attach Shading Point to tool.  Tighten with pliers.  Follow directions for use as stated above.  Shade outer edge of plaque until desired darkness is achieved. When complete, unplug Tool and let cool.

  6. Use eraser to remove any visible graphite lines.

  7. Apply wood sealer to entire plaque.  An effective sealer can be made by mixing equal parts clear shellac and denatured alcohol.  Apply with a foam brush.  Store remaining sealer in a safe and labeled container.

  8. Use Oil Colored Pencils to add color to woodburning.  Use a blending stick or Q-Tip to smooth and blend colors.

  9. Apply 2-3 coats of spray varnish for a protective finish.
