  1. To prepare wood for woodburning, use sandpaper to lightly sand wood surface.  Remove dust with paper towel.

  2. Place dragonfly pattern on center of plaque.  Tape in place.  Slide graphite paper under pattern (carbon side down).  Use pencil or stylus to trace lines of pattern.  When complete, remove pattern and graphite paper.

  3. Before using Creative Woodburner Value Pen, read and follow all safety precautions on packaging.  Attach Universal Point to tool.  Tighten with pliers.  Secure stand to hard surface with tape.  Place tool on stand.  Plug into electric outlet and heat for 4-5 minutes.  Practice on a scrap of wood before beginning project to get a feel for the tool.  Use a light touch.  Do not press hard, just let the tool do the work and gently glide over the wood.  A new Universal Point is sometimes quite sharp.  To make the point glide over the wood more smoothly, hold the point on an angle and rub the edges over sandpaper a few times. Use this same procedure if the point gets a build-up after use.

  4. Use Universal Point to burn the traced lines.  When complete, unplug tool and let cool.  Remove Universal Point and attach Shading Point.  Tighten with pliers and follow instructions for use as stated above.  Use Shading Point to burn the outer edge of plaque.  When complete, unplug tool and let cool.

  5. Use eraser to remove any graphite lines.  Brush away any eraser debris.

  6. Use foam brush to apply wood sealer to plaque.  (To make your own wood sealer, mix equal parts clear shellac and denatured alcohol.  Store remaining sealer in a labeled container.)  Let dry.  Use fine sandpaper to lightly sand to a smooth surface.

  7.  To add color to dragonfly and outer beveled edge, use brush to apply a wash of metallic paint.  (Make a wash by mixing equal parts paint and water).  Remove excess wash with a paper towel.  Let dry.  Apply extra coats if desired.  Let dry.

  8. Apply 2-3 coats of spray varnish for a protective finish.
