  • Eraser
  • Glass or metal container for hot points
  • Paper towel
  • Pencil
  • Pliers
  • Sandpaper
  • Tape
  • Varnish (spray or brush on)

Instructions:

Tip:  Before using the Universal Point, hold the Point at an angle and rub the sides of the Point over sand paper to remove some of the sharpness.  This will allow the Point to glide over the wood more smoothly.

  1. Before using hot tool, read through all instructions and follow all safety precautions.  Attach Universal Point to tool.  Tighten with pliers.  Secure stand to hard, heat resistant surface with tape.  Place tool on stand.  Let heat for 4-5 minutes.  Practice on a scrap of wood before beginning project.

  2. To prepare wood for woodburning, use sandpaper to lightly sand to a smooth finish.  Remove dust with paper towel.

  3. Use drill with 3/8” drill bit to drill hole in center of clock.

  4. Place stencil on the wood surface.  Secure with tape.  Use pencil to trace pattern onto wood.  Reposition stencil until the desired pattern has been traced.

  5. Use the Universal Point to woodburn over the traced lines.  Go slowly and do not press hard, let the Point glide over the wood for a smooth image.  When all lines are woodburned, hold the Universal Point on an angle to burn the inside areas of the checkerboard design.  When finished, unplug tool and let cool.  Remove Universal Point.

  6. Attach the Shading Point.  Follow directions for use as stated in #1.  Use Shading Point to shade outer edges of the petals, center of sunflowers and leaves.  Refer to photo for suggestions.  When finished, unplug and let cool.  Remove Shading Point.

  7. Attach Flow Point.  Follow directions for use as stated in #1.  Hold tool in an upright position and gently make dots in the center of the sunflowers.  When complete, unplug tool and let cool.

  8. Use eraser to remove any pencil lines.

  9. Apply 2-3 coats of either spray or brush on varnish for a protective finish.  Let dry.

  10. Follow directions on packaging for attaching Clock Movement.  Insert AA battery.
